My Thanksgiving Adventure

So after a eventful day of travel and activities, I am finally in Auburn and resting in my room and on my bed. Ah~~~ it is good to be home!!! So let’s recap.

My day started at 2:30 when I woke up trying to get book on an earlier flight of 6:10 am to ATL by using the same day standby. After calling in 10 minutes early and then recall them 20 minutes late, I finally got my 6:10 flight confirmed. The road to the airport parking was not as bad as I thought. I was able to get to the parking deck pretty quickly. Once I checked in, it look me a while to get through airport security. But with my disappointment, I did not get close and personal with a TSA agent. Pretty much all the SeaTac Airport advance imagining machines were off. When I got to the gate, my upgraded ticket was already waiting for me. (oh I love airline status).

The flight was very uneventful at first, the free gogo onboard internet was nice. Thanks Google Chrome!!! When we finally got to ATL, we started to land and just before landing the airplane pulled up and started to increase power and pulling away. The captain then came on over the speaker stating that there was an alarm on one of the landing gears and we are going to circle around and try again. Ok, I was a bit nervous, but not really that nervous. Then just before the second approach and landing the captain says that the landing gears are down, but the door did not come back up because of the hydraulics so we maybe seeing sparks when we land. But he added, everything should be ok. Now I was a bit nervous. However, we landed successfully and immediately pull to a taxi land and stopped. We are waiting for the ground crew to verify that the landing gears are secure before moving the plane to the gate, this will prevent the airplane from collapsing on a bad landing gear.

After picking up my rental car, (and yes Hertz Gold is super awesome, no waiting and just pickup and go!!! Best of all no harassment from sells people like at Enterprise) I was on a hunt for some lunch, in particular Chick-fil-a. After 3 exits of finding all fast food restaurants are closed, I realized that yes, today is Thanksgiving. Doh!

After 3 hours of driving, I made it to Montgomery, Alabama and enjoyed my wonderful Thanksgiving lunch and then Dinner hotpot.

More adventures to come tomorrow with the Auburn vs Alabama Game!!!! WAR EAGLE!!!

Remaining in Seattle after all …

{This is a backfill post}
What an interesting day today, I woke up early this morning, got ready and went to the airport. I parked my car in an off site parking lot, I got to the terminal, I went through the security line and I got to the gate. I was still early, so I went around and look for some food. I got an bottle of OJ and a musubi and went back to the gate. Shortly after, they started the boarding process. I checked in, walking half way through the jet way and then my boss came walking up from the airplane. He said. “well, I just talked to the pilot and they said they don’t understand why we’re still taking off”. The pilot also said that a lot of planes already got cancelled. So my boss ask us if we should go or not. Finally our boss decided to cancel our trip to New York and not risk the chance of getting stuck either in New York or worse get stuck halfway between here in New York because we’re unable to land in New York and miss our interview.

So after walking back out to the terminal, and pick my car back up … I was back to work in Seattle 🙂

Traveling without a car today

I like public transportation. I like trains, ferries, and buses. I never really thought about why I like them, but I just like them. Today is a special day, I am going to Bremerton for work. My coworker will pick me up at the ferry terminal on the otherside. So, I am taking the public transportation the entire way.

Few things I notice, and maybe these are the reasons why I like public transportation.

1) The city looks so much different when you are on the bus.

2) When I am traveling without my car, I just feel so light and free. I mean I don’t have to worry about parking, break-in’s, and everything else associated with a car. Granted, I don’t get the excitement of driving, but it is good to change it up a bit.

3) no traffics to deal with. That is relaxing 🙂

So what happened yesterday…

So… here is my story… just like another early spring Saturday, I went to snowboarding at Steven’s pass with my friends Howie and Pauline. When we got there, we geared up and headed toward the slopes… while I was walking toward the parking lot, Pauline asked if I got my keys.. and I jokingly laughed and said, “it would be really bad if I didn’t”, then I realized that I left my gloves in the trunk and return to my car to get them. Once I got my gloves, I quickly caught up with my friends and off to the slopes we went.

As I stated earlier, it was really spring skiing this weekend, most of the slopes were icy earlier on, but eventually soften up. So after about the 6th or 7th run, I had a major fall on the back mountain, I just laughed and I thought, “I hope I did not lose my keys”. I then padded my front pockets, nothing… I padded my back pockets, nothing… I check my coat pockets, still nothing…
I was thinking, “oh shit, I must have lost my keys during my fall.” After I realized there was nothing I can do on the slope, I decided to ask my buddies for help. I boarded down to Howie and Pauline and told them the situation. We decided to retrace my last run and see if we can find it. The good thing was that my key chain had a bright red dragon fly on it, but the bad thing was that my key chain has every important key that I owned on it and I do not have a backup. This includes my car keys, house keys, mail box… etc (my backup keys got stolen 3 month ago during my car break in) As one can see, I was pretty much in a major panic. We combed the back slop and could not find my keys at all… then I though about this morning, maybe I accidently locked my keys in the trunk this morning and never carried it on the slope with me. So I thought to myself, if my car was unlocked then the keys must be in the trunk. I must go back and check. After we gave up searching in the back mountain, I headed back to my car and hoped to find my car unlocked. When I got to my car, I notice my driver side door was locked… I pulled on the handle and sure thing, it was locked. “oh shit”, I thought “this really, really sucks.” Then I looked up and saw a white piece of paper, sitting at the corner of my roof rack wind deflector. I picked up the paper and behind it was my keys!!!! OH MY GOSH!!!! at that instant there was a rush of relief and joy!!! Written inside the white paper was a brief note “Found this send reward to … ” . Oh my gosh!! thank you thank you!!! yeah I will send a reward…
I was so happy to have found my keys… but shortly realized that the actual address was fake. But I still want to thank the stranger that left my keys on my car!!! Thank you Thank you!!!

See.. there are good people in this world….

P.S. This is not the first time I lost my keys and have them returned… Look on Sept. 16, 2006 for my last lost key experience.

Woo hoo .. I am back

So after a week and a half of moving and no internet I am finally connected back up. Whoo hoo!!!

It is good to be back… so what’s been going on? Humm… let’s see… moving for one. Oh … i discovered that moving in to a townhouse sucks… because the space seem so much bigger when it was empty. Basically … all my stuff fit very snuggley into my 1200 sq ft townhouse. Oh and because it is a townhouse, and it has really really really tight stairwells, I was not able to get my two queen sized box springs to the third floor. So now I am now sleeping without box springs. The stairwell was also a problem for my big ol’ sofa. So now my study on the first floor is a lounge / quiet room with a 3 person sofa in it. Oh and let’s not talk about parking…. yes yes.. I do have my own garage now… which is good… however, in order to park in my little garage, it requires total concentration and a 2 to 4 points turn. It really bites… as a matter of fact.. I already scratched up my beautiful car because of it. Oh well… it is all part of the learning experience right?

All in all … I really like my new place. the kitchen is nice… the location is awesome… I finally feel like I am living in Seattle.

So… come by and visit sometimes!!!

I hate the stupid people that don’t take responsibility for their actions

OK Seattle, when you hit someone’s car while parking and put a dent in the front, you take responsibility for your action and leave your insurance information and contact information. I mean this really sucks to find that your car been hit the next morning. You guys just suck!

People are just awful drivers. I am glad that I do not have to drive to work everyday or else I really think some one can go crazy with the way some people drive these days. For example, today I was in Chinatown trying to find a parking space, this full size truck pulls up in front of me and the guy rolled down his window and started talking to me. He was blocking everyone’s movement in the parking lot. Finally, after repeated times trying to tell him to move on, I finally lowered my window and said, “What do you want? you are blocking traffic!!” And he replied, “Hey, look I do some car body work and I can fix your car body really cheap.” He was referring to the dent I have on my camry, but I just don’t think in the middle of the parking lot blocking everyone around him is the time to pick up some business. Well… anyway….. I have sent Min-Jye off to the Airport so … I am back home again… I think I will take a nap.

Day 3 Taiwan 2002

Day 3

Once again… lots of stuff went on today.

As usual, I start the morning in Taiwan with a wonderful breakfast. I have not eaten breakfast in the US for a while now. After breakfast we head to the hospital with my grandmother for her rehab training. It makes me feel a lot better knowing that she is doing better with every session. For lunch, I went to my uncless house and caught up on some old times. I also got to see some of my cousin’s kids. Gee! I am an uncle now!

Hsiu Hsiu met us after lunch at my uncle’s place where we chatted a little and then headed out. I was still filling a little bit oozy, we decided to go see a doctor here in Taiwan. She took me to her old doctor that she has been seeing since she was a kid. The experience was incredible. I was in the clinic and there was almost no wait. I got attend to almost immediately. The doctor ask me what’s wrong and then look it over, ask me couple of questions and pretty much knew what’s wrong with me. I was not comfortable with his quick diagnostics so I asked him some questions and about the drugs he was prescribing . He quickly explained every bit with great detail. I thought to myself, this guy knows what he is talking about. The best part of the whole thing was, with the drugs included, the entire visit only cost me 400 NT or 12 bucks US. Almost 10 times less then what I had to pay in US. This is without insurance. Man, for everyone in US, the medical community is screwing us over!!!

Afterward, we headed to a fancy store to buy some xmas gifts for our friends in Taiwan and in US. Check this out … a Snoopy exhibit.

For dinner we met up with my uncles and aunts from my mom’s side and had a super wonderful dinner.

Hey! every seen an automatic parking garage? Cool! uh?

Well, we just got back from “lunch” at Mia’s. I did not have very much… because it is just too weird to eat anything at this time of the day. As for our last floor, well that was cancelled, because of the NOC operator will not allow us to do the 1-2 hour change. It actually probably will not take that long. Well, so now we plan for the next couple of floors. I am still hoping to head home before 6 am… That’s when the parking price goes up.
