Well... what a beautiful sunny Saturday. So it seems that the smoke from yesterday cleared up. So I got up early today, talked to my good buddy Trung and wash my car and modded my Nomad Zen Xtra's case. See and it is only 2:30 pm. Still have lots of time to study a bit. So why do I have so much energy today? I think it is because I feel really charged today because yesterday, my landlord, aka Eric, bought me a second AC. WOO HOO!!! Yes... the house is now alot cooler than before .
So like I said earlier, I decided to mod my Zen Xtra's case. Why, because the lack of a window is bothering me, and I broke my belt clip on the first day of my ownership. So ... I went to Wal-mart and bought some parts and off I go. So here is what it looks like after I finished the modding. Pretty cool huh? I think I will try to put some trims on there to make it look better.

Finally ... it is the weekend... Boy today is such an weird day. The sky in Ephrata is filled with smoke. It looks like a cloudy day, but it is not... it is just smoke. I mean it is so bad this morning, the sun was just a small red dot behind all the smoke. So where all the smoke coming from? It is coming from a forest fire near Chelan, Washington. It should get better tomorrow. I hope....
So what is FWD you say? no no ... it is not forward. FWD stands for FreeWorldDialup. It basically gives you a SIP phone number on line and you just use a softphone to talk to anyone in the world over the internet. You can even all directly to a Packet8 phone!!!! Sweet!!!
It has been another week since my last blog. I have been really busy. The good news is I finally got over my cough and my cold. So what have I been busy with lately? Well, I been busy with work of course. Yes yes, out portal/gateways are having issues again. So for the first two days of this week, I been babysitting the vendor and trying to help them find out what is wrong with their hardware. Ok ok, that is enough about work. So what else is going on? Well, I am going back to Auburn again next week. Why? because Hsiu Hsiu, my fiancee is graduating!!! Congrats, Hsiu Hsiu!!!!! The sad news is that soon she will be going back to Taiwan... but not before visiting me first :P
So... it has been couple of days after networkers and it is good to be back in Grant County. just coming back from a big conference it is hard to catch up. After all, I been away for an entire week. I still have a little bit of a cough, but I am getting better.
So a group of us went to lunch today, and during lunch, on of my buddies, Mohan, was talking about the Opensource PBX, Asterisk. And I said, dude... that was created by my high school buddy Mark Spencer. So I looked on the Asterisk's website and saw that Mark is going to be a keynote speaker for Astricon 2004, a conference for open source PBX. It is amazing to see that one of your buddy is doing so well. Good job Mark!! So... what is the immediate plan? Well, maybe I should set up an Asterisk PBX in my house and see what the fuss is all about. :-) but of course, everything will not happen until after Oct 29, 2004.
After a full week in new orleans, I am finally back in washington. I still have two and half hours of driving to home. I will write more when I get home.
What a party last night. Cisco really put up a good party in the Superdome. Yep, the rented the entire Superdome!!! It was pretty cool!!! I have some pictures, but since I didn't have my camera with me, I have to wait for my friends to send the pictures to me. I will make sure to post the pictures up as soon as I get them. Today, I have a full day of security techtorial. Fun Fun... but the cool thing is ... Hsiu Hsiu is driving down. So we will have time to spend the afternoon together.
Today is the 3rd official day of Networkers and it is also the 4th day for me. Today's keynote speaker was pretty cool. He is a professor from Harvard. He is one of the earily adpters of the internet and a contributing member of the IETF. He presented a brief overview of the internet in his preception and he also gave a bit of what he see as some of the challenges of the internet in the future. One of the key subject that he mentioned is the current attempts for the global government to take control of the internet and internet use. I agree with him, I believe if that ever happens, it will put an end to many new innovations. Ok ... no more about politics. Here are some pictures from this morning's event. Enjoy.
Still here... at Networkers!!!... you know what? I really learned alot. For example, when I get home, I will need to try to get FWD working with my packet 8.
I know I mentioned how much I love wireless. Well, today I walked into my morning session and realized that it is not really what I wanted to take. So I pull out my laptop and with 3 clicks I was registered for another class and I am on my way to a different class. I love NETWORKING!!!
Ok I take it all back. My theory on Cisco using engineering on the food lines was faulty. Tonight... they actually centralize the food to a very small area in 2 lines only. Yet it was congested, but the food was pretty good. The evening session of BOF (Bird of a feather aka open discussion) was ok. Wow... a entire day of training... my head is about to explode.
So... the big grand opening for Networkers yesterday was pretty cool. Lots of food and lot of people. I had a good time meeting my buddies Raymund, Clayton, and Joe... from El Paso. Afterward, Raymund and I went across the street to get some sushi. Boy, we haven't done that is a while. It is good to have good sushi with a good friend. Anyway, you know Networker is for geeks and designed by geeks... I mean even how they placed the food have almost an engineered method. For example, during the big opening last night, they placed all the food through out the exhibit, so one will have to go in the the exhibit and explore and find the food. And today for lunch... they had a queuing system to distribute the lunch... it remind me of my QOS class from yesterday. Fun stuff huh... Well... the class this morning was pretty boring ... but I hope the ones this afternoon is better.
Can you believe it, it is already 4:00 pm... wow... that is quick... today just seem to fly right by. So I have soaked in so much knowledge here ... or at least I feel like I have soaked in some knowledge. Dinner soon.... I think I will go have dinner with my el paso buddys.
Lunch was not too bad. Very standard conference food. The only difference is ... its free :P... I like that. One thing cool about Cisco Networkers is all the food and drinks are free. Ok, OK... it is not really free ... because it is probably included in the cost, but it is still pretty cool. As for the tech session? Learning alot of stuff. I think I will have some good stuff to bring back to the district. One big problem... Battery life!!! My laptop is running low!!!
Well, I just got my first 15 minutes for break. So is the techtorial worth the money... so far so good. A lot of review on QOS (Quality of Service) and A LOT of new knowledge. Well.. back to class....
There seems to be alot of technical problems in Networkers. The actually have to postpone all the techtorial session 15 minutes because of registration technical issues. Did someone say a Cisco network issue?
Today is the first official day of networkers and it is my third day in New Orleans. Well, it is pretty cool to be back here in the south. I guess the only reason why I am saying this is because yesterday, I passed my BCMSN aka the CCNP switching exam. so I am 3 more exams away from my CCNP. but that will probably not happen until after October 29, because that is the day that I take my professonal engineering exams. Well, I am in a techtorial Session right now... so time to go to learn. I will try to have a blog every day during my time in Networkers 2004.
So that's two weeks in a row that I am in Seattle Friday night flying down to the South. Home sweet home... right? Well, I am flying out 6 am tomorrow so I am staying at the Courtyard Marriot near the airport. Oh man ... how I love priceline.com . I got this room for 1 night for 30 dollars. I thing I would usually have to pay at least 50 dollars. SWEET!!! Well... I still have a slight cold but I hope I can get rid of it by tomorrow. The pressure changes during the flight really messes my sinus up. So... ok... good night... and see ya tomorrow.
Couple of days before networkers and I am feeling a little bit sick. I think it is because of the open windows last night. With the temperature droping and all ... I must have caught a bug or something. EEK... Drink lots of liquid and get this bug out of here.
Plum... part 2... ok... it tasted pretty much like a plum... a little small and the core is very big but it tasted pretty good. I might have to go and pick some more sometime :-)
PLUM THIS!! Wow... I was just walking back from lunch with some coworkers and I saw some purple looking fruit on the ground. At first I thought it was dropped grapes... so I said ... Humm... what's this? My co-workers replied oh... they are plums. Uh... PLUMS? so I looked up and there it was a tree full of beautiful purple plums!!! I mean plums!!! I only heard of plum trees before in stories. I had plums before from the supermarkets, but I have never seen a plum tree before. WOW!!! This is so cool!!!! of course, I picked one from the tree and I will tell you how it taste in a bit. :-)
